Major AM material development for the railway sector

LUVOCOM 3F PEI 50236 GY, the newest addition to our range of flame-resistant 3D printing materials, has received the DIN EN 45545-2 R1 HL3 certification. The railway industry relies primarily on the DIN EN 45545-2 standard, one of the most demanding fire testing standards in the world.

LUVOCOM 3F PEI 50236 GY, based on polyetherimide (PEI), already meets the R1 HL3 certification for 3D-printed samples that are only 2 mm thick. As a result of the test specimens created from LUVOCOM 3F PEI 50236 GY achieving previously unheard-of test results, the material is now considered to be among the best in its category for use in railway applications. This makes it possible to use 3D printed components in delicate rail vehicle applications. LUVOCOM 3F PEI 50236 GY is colored grey. As a result, components no longer require a priming coat and also have improved weather and UV resistance.

There are numerous more materials for railway applications in the LUVOCOM® 3F product line. Examples include the high-temperature polyamide (PA)-based LUVOCOM 3F PAHT KK 50056 BK FR and the PPS-based LUVOCOM 3F PPS CF 9938 BK. Both compounds meet EN 45545 R22 and R23 HL3.

All three materials listed also meet the UL 94 V0 test criteria, with 3D-printed test components starting at 0.4 mm. Click here to download the Luvocom® 3F PEI 50236 GY DIN EN 45545-2 R1 HL3 certification report.
